Rialto tool

In recent years the construction sector has faced an increasing adoption of innovative technologies due to the need to improve quality in time efficiency, reduce errors and improve safety. Rialto tool by R2M relies on Augmented Reality (AR) fostering the technological transition from traditional methods towards innovative approaches.

It is an engine for Android mobile devices that supports onsite operations, inspections and post-construction maintenance, thus tagging real-world elements and enabling defects identification to be reported. Rialto uses AR to offer guidance to operators through onsite inspections, providing user-friendly interface to create and view AR annotations, and improving collaboration between workers.

Annotations can be consulted and visualized in the RE-Suite platform thanks to the integration of APIs endpoint which stores and retrieves inspection data in it. For this reason, Rialto is a valuable application for onsite visits which strengthen construction industry innovation.

Objectives

Key objectives for Rialto are the development of an application for efficient construction tracking and conformity checking during construction processes. Also offering guidance to operators in detecting gaps and discrepancies between the as-designed and as-built environment. Thus reducing onsite inspection time and improving timing in AR features.

Work Carried Out So Far & Milestones Achieved

Since the very beginning of the Inperso Project, a structured path was defined to achieve Rialto’s development. It has been observed and researched the positioning of defects in 3D space, representing such information in 3D real world locations; then the interoperability and connections with the RE-Suite platform was investigated and implemented in the engine.

During the user test validation onsite, Rialto’s benefits were confirmed and these results highlighted the importance of integrating innovative technologies in the AEC sector, thus supporting accuracy, reducing errors and improving safety onsite.

Remaining Work

The technology has been developed by R2M and finalized in December 2024. No further activities in technology implementation are planned until the project completion.

Expected Impact

Rialto tackles significant results in reducing inspection time by over 80%. The expected impact during renovation phases with AR technologies is based on the engine implementation and its later validation onsite in real time conditions.
